Let the day break, 2017

Two videos (looped, unsynchronized), steel, aluminium, zinc, enamel, mirror glass

6 b/w inkjet print on sketch paper (0,1 mm), 45 x 320 cm

Let the day break is an exploration of death in relation to interpersonal communication. The work investigates presence and absence, transience and materiality, and how images can shift meaning depending on form, medium, and context. Exhibited in various configurations the piece has evolved with each presentation, shifting in both material form and spatial experience. At its core lies a fascination with volatility and impermanence.

The duality of projection—a medium that simultaneously exists and does not—plays a central role. Two looped, unsynchronized slideshows, partially overlapping and sharing some images, are projected from different sources. Their asynchronous rhythm and slight difference in scale highlights both repetition and distortion. This visual tension is amplified through the use of glitch as a method—an intentional disruption that questions the stability of the image and memory itself.

The work also includes physical manifestations of the same visual material. Images are transferred onto hard materials such as steel, aluminium, and slate using techniques like liquid emulsion, etching, and laser engraving. In other configurations, the work is presented through large sheets of sketch paper, suspended in front of a window. The image is then activated by natural light and the movement of air as viewers pass by.

The work has been exhibited at Gallery Rotor2, Gothenburg, 2017.
